Barefoot shoes are very good if you want to feel like you have nothing on your feet. They are very light weight and make you feel like nothing is on your feet. They are most common on long distance runners that run ultra-marathons that witch are 50 mile and 100 mile races.
If you are looking for support on your feet, these are not the way to go. These have almost no support and after a while, your feet will start hurting. The reason is, is that they are meant to make you feel like you have no shoes on and they are so thin and are so light, they would be impractical if you have any leg problems. If you are starting these and you have problems with your feet hurting, don't not use them; give them time.
I totally agree with you and I believe that Vibram Five Fingersis one of the most popular barefoot shoes on the market today. What I like about it is that it emulates almost 100% of barefoot feeling. In fact, I've been using it for almost a now and so far, so great. I've never had any problems at all.
